U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. took aim at CNN’s Dana Bash when the two discussed the COVID-19 pandemic and future health crises.
Bash, 55, questioned Kennedy, 72, about how the country would handle another pandemic, citing the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Kennedy pivoted the conversation away from a “potential public health crisis” to concerns about constitutional rights. As the Health Secretary tried to claim that the COVID-19 impacted Americans’ constitutional rights, Bash pushed back, trying to return the focus of the conversation to a potential future health crisis.
“You want to sit here and attack me? Or do you want to sit here and have a conversation about public health?” asked Bash as Kennedy declared her to be “a part of the problem” and contributing to “press malpractice.” It comes as RFK Jr was humiliated by the CNN presenter less than two minutes into the crash-out interview.

“We need to protect our constitutional rights. That is a primary obligation for our country,” said Kennedy when asked about pandemics. Bash pushed back, asking for clarification.
“Well, during COVID we completely dismantled our constitutional rights. We began censoring people in violation of the First Amendment,” he continued. Bash asked him what “to do” rather than “what not to do,” but Kennedy continued to emphasize his view on the importance of constitutional rights rather than provide a potential solution to a health crisis.

“One of the mistakes we made last time was suppressing those rights, so people weren’t being heard. Doctors who were saying ‘you’re doing it wrong' were being marginalized and vilified,” Kennedy said. He did not clarify as to how these doctors were “marginalized and vilified” by not promoting preventative measures against COVID-19 such as mask-wearing and social distancing.

Kennedy then turned his sights directly on Bash, telling her, “Your job is a fear of skepticism toward authority – and you weren’t doing that.”
He accused her of “beating up on people who were dissenting,” again presumably referring to groups like vaccine skeptics and anti-maskers.
Kennedy countered that Bash was “attacking” him, but she emphasized that she was simply seeking answers to a question.

“I don’t want to use this interview to allow you to say things that aren’t entirely true,” she continued.
“It is actually factually true that the COVID vaccine worked. The COVID vaccine prevented deaths. There is data upon data upon data,” Bash affirmed.
A study published in the National Library of Medicine found that vaccinations prevented an estimated 14.4 million deaths. When factoring in “excess deaths,” this number hovers around 19.8 million deaths prevented.
