David Muir returned to his anchor desk on ABC's World News Tonight on Monday, August 3, ending his news show that night with a special report on Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The fourth Spider-Man film, starring Tom Holland as the title character, had a historic opening weekend at the box office after its premiere on Friday, July 31. David, 52, dedicated a segment of his show to highlighting the major film's accomplishments, saying that not only did Spider-Man: Brand New Day "make history," but it was also "breaking an all-time record."

He added, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day swinging into theaters, scaling to new heights. The biggest box office opening weekend in the U.S. ever. 360 million in North America. 932 million worldwide."

David also noted that "actor Tom Holland," who has been "playing Spider-Man for a decade now," had divulged to ABC's "George [Stephanopoulos] on GMA that this time they let him into the writer's room."

The television personality then shared a clip of George's interview with Tom for Good Morning America on his show, in which the Hollywood star opened up about being invited into the writers' room for this film. "Yeah, they let me into the writer's room, and it was a fascinating experience," Tom admitted.

"I was so lucky that...I guess I didn't realize the power I have as Spider-Man. Cause I'd pitch an idea, go away for a week, come back, and they'd be like here's your idea...I'm lucky that I'm doing this."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is about to reach some more milestones as it's on track to become the second-highest global opening of all time.

As of Tuesday, August 4, it has surpassed $1 billion after just six days of theatrical release, and in the coming weeks, it's expected to become the eighth film of all time and the first non-Avengers Marvel movie to break $2 billion worldwide. In the days after the premiere, Spider-Man fans have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to praise the film.
