President Donald Trump reportedly has a rare portrait of Queen Elizabeth on display at his Mar-a-Lago home

The painting is a reproduction of the last official portrait done of the monarch

Trump has expressed admiration for the late Queen in the past, calling her a "grand and beautiful lady" after she died in 2022

President Donald Trump has a rare portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth hanging in his Florida home, according to a new book.

In the new biography Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. The Inside Story, author Robert Hardman writes that Trump wanted a "permanent reminder" of the monarch, who died in September 2022.

Just four months before her death, Queen Elizabeth sat for a portrait by the Polish-British artist Basia Kaczmarowska-Hamilton. The resulting painting — which ended up being the last official portrait of the monarch — was originally meant to be sent to London's Polish Institute, according to Hardman, but the Queen liked the painting so much that she requested to keep it. The original still hangs in Windsor Castle, while a reproduction was sent to the Polish Institute. An additional reproduction was also given to Trump by the artist, Hardman writes.

"She was so great. I wanted to hang her picture in a room where there is no one else on the wall," Trump reportedly told the biographer.

Hardman reports that the painting is now hanging in the dining room of Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence, above a painting of a medieval ship.

Trump spoke of his respect for the history-making monarch. After her death in 2022, Trump praised Queen Elizabeth in a statement, saying that he and his wife would "always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty's generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor."

"What a grand and beautiful lady she was—there was nobody like her!" Trump wrote. "Our thoughts and prayers will remain with the great people of the United Kingdom as you honor her most meaningful life and exceptional service to the people. May God bless the Queen, may she reign forever in our hearts, and may God hold her and Prince Philip in abiding care."

Former White House Russia advisor Fiona Hill wrote in her 2021 book, There Is Nothing For You Here: Finding Opportunity in the 21st Century, that Trump was "awestruck" by the Queen, and saw a meeting with her as a sign that he "had made it in life."

In September 2025, as part of his second official state visit to the U.K., he and first lady Melania Trump visited Queen Elizabeth's burial site in St. George's Chapel. According to royal reporter Rebecca English at the time, the Trumps spent 10 minutes in reflection at Queen Elizabeth’s burial place, and President Trump called the visit a "great honor."

It's unclear whether the late Queen felt the same way about Trump.

In the 2024 documentary The Cowboy and the Queen, Queen Elizabeth’s friend Monty Roberts said she “didn’t like” Trump. That same year, a biography on the late monarch, A Voyage Around the Queen, reinforced that claim.

"A few weeks after President Trump's visit, for instance, she confided in one lunch guest that she found him 'very rude,’ ” wrote Craig Brown. “She particularly disliked the way he couldn't stop looking over her shoulder, as though in search of others more interesting."
