Ethan Hawke hyped up an upcoming project with director Richard Linklater, saying it will be "among the greatest films ever made"

Hawke, who earned a Golden Globe nomination for his role in Linklater's most recent project, Blue Moon, said he wasn't "nervous" to boast about the unannounced role

Hawke has previously appeared in other hit Linklater projects, including the Before trilogy and 2014's Boyhood

Ethan Hawke has high hopes for his 10th project with director Richard Linklater.

The 55-year-old four-time Oscar nominee didn’t hold back when discussing the upcoming film on Wednesday, Jan. 7 with the Today show’s Craig Melvin.

“Everything’s been preparation for what’s to come,” Hawke teased. “The 10th is going to be the best.”

When Melvin called the comment a “bold statement,” Hawke replied, “I’m making it, man. I’m not even shy. I’m not even nervous about saying it. We’ve been thinking about this movie since 1998. [Linklater’s] been thinking about it longer than that. He’s had this dream for a long time in his head and it’s gonna be good.”

But Hawke, who has starred in other hit Linklater films including Before Sunrise, Boyhood and his latest film, Blue Moon, didn’t stop there.

“Personally I have no doubt in saying it will be among the greatest films ever made,” Hawke said of the upcoming film. “And I’ll be back on your show in about 18 months to back it up. We’ll finish it next year so, yeah ‘27.”

And Hawke, who earned a Golden Globe nomination for portraying Lorenz Hart in the director’s film Blue Moon, has come to expect a robust script from Linklater, sharing, “All the movies are wildly dialogue heavy, so I’m used to pulling the weight with him.”

The upcoming project has not officially been announced, though both Hawke and Linklater have plenty on their plates in the upcoming years.

Linklater told PEOPLE back in September that he and Hawke “have a shorthand” when it comes to directing after working together so often.

"But then this was really demanding something different. I was a more nagging director," Linklater said of Blue Moon, noting that this film was more "technical."

Hawke added, "We're inside a period. We're inside real time. The filmmaking and acting have to be completely in sync."
