Gary Player is speaking out about Tiger Woods
The legendary golfer told reporters that Woods shouldn't have been driving at the time of his DUI arrest
"My heart goes out for him," he said
Add Gary Player to the growing list of golfers who are speaking out about Tiger Woods’ DUI arrest. The former Masters champion spoke to reporters on Thursday, April 9 in advance of the first round of the tournament at Augusta National."Do I blame him for taking medicine? Hell, no," Player, 90, said. "He has sleep deprivation. Do I blame him for taking something to help him sleep? No. But I don't think he should drive a car. When you're taking that medicine, it's dangerous when you're driving a car, same as it's dangerous when you look at your cellphone in the car."Woods, 50, is currently seeking treatment outside the U.S. after his arrest, which came after he crashed his car into another vehicle in Jupiter Island, Fla. on Friday, March 27.
Authorities found two hydrocodone pills in his pants pocket, police allege in a probable cause affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.Player added that he hoped Woods could “get it all sorted out.”"My heart goes out for him," he said. "There's nothing worse than living in pain every day of your life. You can't think of anything worse. I just hope he can get it all sorted out because he's such an asset to golf and has done so much for the game."

Last week, Jack Nicklaus also shared his opinion about Woods’ arrest."Sometimes you get, you know, too far down the line, and you just need somebody to help you," Nicklaus told The Palm Beach Post. "I think he probably needs some help, and we all want to help him. We're all on his side."Golfer Jason Day had harsher words for Woods.
The Australian golfer, who won a major in 2015 at the PGA Championship, told reporters earlier this week that he has always looked up to Woods — but that his DUI arrest was “selfish."“In regards to Tiger, it just shows the human element and the human side of someone that is struggling with some sort of an addiction,” Day, 38, told reporters at a practice round at the Masters on Monday, April 6. “He's not immune to it just because he can hit a golf ball really well.”Day continued, “Granted, when I look at that, I look at it and go, he's just a human being like everyone else and we have struggles. It's unfortunate, the only thing that I don't understand is that it's a little bit selfish of him to drive and put other people in harm's way, as well. But when you're the player that he was and how strong-willed he is, he thinks he can do almost anything, and that's probably why he's probably driving and a little bit under the influence.”
