Even after substantial bipartisan pushback, President Donald Trump is digging his heels into criticism of Rob Reiner less than 24 hours after news of the director's tragic murder.

Trump wasted no time lashing out at the beloved filmmaker in the early hours of Monday morning as reports poured in about Reiner and his wife Michele being found dead at their Brentwood home on Sunday. The president referred to the *This Is Spinal Tap *director as "tortured and struggling," and accused him of suffering from a "massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME."

A chorus of dissenting voices from both sides of the aisle joined in condemning Trump's comments. But when asked hours later during a press conference at the White House if he stood by his remarks, the former reality star doubled down.

"I wasn't a fan of his at all," Trump said. "He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned."

The president accused the *When Harry Met Sally* helmer of spreading rumors about his ties to Russia, claiming, "He knew it was false. In fact, it was the exact opposite — that I was a friend of Russia, controlled by Russia. You know it was the Russia hoax, he was one of the people behind it."

Trump noted that he believes Reiner "hurt himself career-wise," over his sustained criticism of the president and his policies. "He became like a deranged person - Trump Derangement Syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all, in any way, shape, or form. I thought he was very bad for our country."

Rob and Michele Reiner were discovered dead on Sunday in what is being described by authorities as a double homicide. TMZ previously reported that their deaths have been attributed to lacerations consistent with a knife.

The Los Angeles Police Department arrested the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, in connection with his parents' murders. Nick is being held on a $4 million bail for an alleged felony charge.**

The blowback to Trump's criticism of Reiner has been swift, intense, and has breached both sides of the political divide. The ladies of *The View*, California Governor Gavin Newsom, many celebrities, and even some of Trump's conservative colleagues, like Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie have condemned the president's comments.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, the outspoken Republican representative from Georgia, who has recently been sparring with Trump over his handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, issued a strong rebuke of his comments on X. "This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies," she wrote. "Many families deal with a family member with drug addiction and mental health issues. It's incredibly difficult and should be met with empathy especially when it ends in murder."
