Spider-Man: Brand New Day scored the second-biggest opening weekend, only behind Avengers: Endgame

Tom Holland lured audiences into Spider-Man’s web over the weekend.
Since its Friday, July 31 debut in theaters, Spider-Man: Brand New Dayearned a whopping $355 million across the U.S. and $927 million globally, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This makes Brand New Day the second-biggest opening weekend, only behind Avengers: Endgame, which earned $357.1 million in the U.S. and $1.2 billion globally during its opening weekend in 2019.
After just its opening weekend, the fourth installment in the Holland-led superhero franchise from Sony and Marvel is officially the biggest film debut of 2026.

The feat is all the more impressive considering it bests the opening of the franchise’s previous installment, 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which grossed about $260 million domestically and $600 million worldwide in its first few days.
In the Destin Daniel Cretton-directed Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland, 30, leads a cast that includes franchise regulars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, plus Jon Bernthal returning as Marvel’s The Punisher and Sadie Sink.

Per Box Office Mojo, the biggest box office hits domestically so far this year areToy Story 5, The Super Mario Galaxy Movieand Michael Jackson biopic Michael, all of which have passed the billion-dollar mark internationally.
Christopher Nolan’s star-studded adaptation of Homer’sThe Odyssey, which debuted July 17, is climbing those charts after a strong opening weekend. The latter film also stars Holland, Zendaya, 29, and Bernthal, 49.

Holland has played Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man more than any other movie actor between his four solo films and three Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.
