A Culver’s owner got a surprising response after banning teens from her restaurant.

Dawndria Murray, the owner of a Culver’s in Matteson, Ill., prohibited teenagers from entering her restaurant without adult supervision following disruptive behavior like food fights, walking on tables, vandalizing and cursing, according to NBC Chicago, prompting parents in the area to respond.

Murray, the first Black woman to own a franchise of the fast food chain, shared a post saying that she tried to act as a “village” for the kids that come into the restaurant, particularly because she knows that some of them come to wait for their parents there, per the outlet.

She told NBC Chicago that she has bought meals for kids who can’t afford it and tried to connect students with tutors or reward them for good grades.

“I deal with disrespectful kids on a daily basis,” she wrote. “My bathroom has been vandalized, they jump over the seats, they have food fights, [they are] so loud cussing and being disrespectful.”

“With that being said kids aren’t allowed at my location without a parent supervision,” she wrote. “It took me awhile to come to this decision.. I’ve been to the school talking to administrators and NOTHING has worked.”

“I will not let these kids tear up my business nor disrespect me and [my] employees,” she said.

She also posted surveillance video of the behavior in an attempt to reach parents – not, she said, to shame the teens, according to NBC Chicago.

“I just really wanted the parents to come together and help me with the kids,” she told the outlet. “I love my job, I put a lot of sweat and tears."

A businessman and philanthropist Early Walker also echoed Murray’s statements on social media, resharing her initial post. “The only person that can control these kids are the parents of the kids,” he told NBC Chicago.

The social media posts prompted some parents to apologize to Murray.

Murray told Walker in a message that he posted to Facebook that “another parent just came up here with their kid" after the teen was captured on surveillance footage.

Another parent messaged Walker, saying that they took their son and spoke with Murray and her managers, who said the kids he hangs out with are disrespectful, but that their son wasn’t the problem.

“I will reach out to one of the kids parents that I know and let them know about this,” the message reads.

“I know that parents are coming together to have my back,” Murray told NBC Chicago, adding “It’s a good thing.”

Murray could not be immediately reached for comment.

Local officials also reached out to nearby schools to try to stop the behavior.

“We made sure that we had connection with our schools, and that they were involved in what we do,” Matteson Mayor Sheila Chalmers-Currin said to NBC Chicago, adding, “the parents are being proactive, they’re working with us and we’re gonna continue to do that.”

Per the outlet, Walker continued to show solidarity by inviting the community to support the restaurant on Saturday, April 11.

“We want to make sure that we’re showing [Murray] we’re behind her," he said.
