Let's Discuss the Landman Season 2 Finale Emerson Miller

Spoilers below.

There were only 10 episodes in this season of Landman, but a lot has happened to the Paramount+ show’s many characters. Season 2 started off with significant changes for the oil company M-Tex, with CEO Monty (Jon Hamm) passing away at the end of season 1, leading his wife Cami (Demi Moore) to take over. In season 2, Cami quickly realized that her husband kept all manner of secrets from her re: the true state of M-Tex—and that it would take help from Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton), Rebecca (Kayla Wallace), and Nate (Colm Feore) to keep the business afloat.

But rooting for M-Tex to succeed is only part of what makes Landman engaging to watch. We’re also tuning in for the romance. Ariana (Paulina Chavez) and Cooper (Jacob Lofland), for example, began on shaky ground in season 2, and even briefly broke up before eventually getting engaged. Tommy and Angela (Ali Larter) started talking about a potential remarriage, and we even saw Rebecca find love with the geologist Charlie (Guy Burnet). The real tension in the finale is in how everyone will manage to keep their professional lives and their personal lives intact.

In the penultimate episode, Cooper found himself in potential trouble, beating up a man who assaulted Ariana. Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) went off to cheerleading camp, but she didn’t get along with her roommate, so her mother, Angela, stepped in. And in a major twist, Cami fired Tommy for not taking enough risks to save the company.

Ahead, let’s dig into the events of the Landman season 2 finale.

Emerson MillerWhat happened in the Landman season 2 finale?

Tommy might have lost his job last episode, but that doesn’t mean he suddenly has nothing to do. He starts off his day on the porch with his father, T.L. (Sam Elliott), to whom he reveals he already has a meeting with Chevron scheduled that afternoon. For any other high-ranking executive, moving to another major company would be the end of the story. But Tommy says he has reservations about the role—and he’s not sure what to do next. “Finding another ship to jump on ain’t the problem,” he says. “I’m not sure I want to jump on somebody else’s ship.”

He heads back indoors and talks to Nate, who says he’ll talk to Cami about reinstating Tommy. But Tommy has other ideas: He wants Nate to find a way to void the contract made for his son Cooper’s oil rigs. But before they can agree on their next move, Cami calls Nate to Fort Worth, and Tommy suspects she’ll offer him Tommy’s old position as president of M-Tex. The two prepare to fly there, and Tommy affirms there’s no way he’s returning to M-Tex.

We then cut from Tommy to Gallino (Andy Garcia) and his wife, Bella (Stefania Spampinato). They’re scheming, trying to find out what they can about Tommy’s next move, now that he’s out at M-Tex. Bella says she plans to meet with Angela for lunch, but she promises not to reveal any information about Gallino’s own plans. When the pair of women do meet for a meal, it’s mainly for Bella to reveal to Angela that Tommy lost his job—and to watch Angela’s panicked reaction in real time. Angela calls Tommy right away, and he assures her it’s not like 2008 this time. He has a plan; he just needs her to trust him.

Next, it’s over to Ariana and Cooper, who are still reeling from the violent assault Ariana experienced in episode 9. Cooper nearly killed her assailant to defend her, and they agree to go to the police, with Ariana promising she won’t return to work at the bar after what she’s been through.

At the station, Ariana provides her statement, and the police photograph her bruises. Cooper is treated less delicately; the cops end up interrogating him based on how he reacted. It turns out he punched Ariana’s assailant 17 times, far more than necessary, according to the station’s detectives. Ariana doesn’t know how much trouble Cooper is in until her former boss, Barney (K.C. Clyde), comes in, and he tells her the man Cooper beat up died on his way to the ER. She quickly calls Rebecca, who stops Cooper’s interrogation and alerts Tommy that the police want to charge his son with murder.

As if Tommy’s day couldn’t get any worse! Moments later, there’s a car crash right in front of him, which he narrowly manages to avoid.

Rebecca and Walt (Mark Collie) make it to Cooper’s interrogation room, and Rebecca threatens to sue the station into oblivion if they try to charge Cooper. She manages to get Tommy’s son released, but she tells Tommy she can’t be certain the police plan to let the case go.

While all this chaos is going on, we also have Ainsley at cheer camp. It’s her first real day with the team, and everything is new to her: She’s surprised at how much training she’ll have to do, and she’s nervous about making a good first impression with the coach. Despite their differences, Paigyn (Bobbi Salvör Menuez) advises Ainsley on how to improve, and Ainsley defends Paigyn when a group of high schoolers start heckling them both. The two reconcile, and Ainsley tells her mother she’s planning to give dorm life another try. And though that’s overall great news, Angela can’t help but lament her newfound status as an empty nester.

Over in Fort Worth, Nate meets with Cami. She offers him Tommy’s old job, but to her surprise, Nate submits his resignation instead. He tells her that Monty built his company to be sold, despite Cami’s determination to keep control of it. With that, he cuts ties to M-Tex, too.

Tommy then meets with Bob Knowles (Colin Ferguson) from Chevron, and he attempts to bring in Cooper’s fields as a business opportunity. However, the legal complications of Tommy taking the contract away from M-Tex scare off Bob, and he refuses to even consider Tommy’s offer. He says if Tommy can walk away from M-Tex completely, though, he’ll give him a position at Chevron as vice president. Tommy declines.

Instead, he goes to Gallino. Tommy proposes Gallino honor the original agreement he had with Cooper: Keep M-Tex out of the oil they’d discovered by investing in Cooper and Tommy’s own venture. Tommy believes Cami isn’t fit to run M-Tex, and Gallino can’t trust her to get a return on his investment. Gallino negotiates, then agrees to a deal, warning Tommy that he’ll face retaliation if he doesn’t deliver what he’s promised. On the spot, Tommy comes up with a name for an LLC to which Gallino can write a check. Then he runs off to his next errand: keeping his son from going down for murder.

Tommy finally arrives at the police station, where he announces a major flaw in the police’s quest to charge Cooper: Ariana’s attacker died of a heart attack on the way to the hospital, not from his Cooper-inflicted injuries. He also argues that the only real victim here is Ariana, and like Rebecca, he threatens to ruin the cops’s careers if they go after his son. After a bit of back and forth, everyone finally agrees to leave the case alone, and Tommy heads over to Ariana and Cooper’s to deliver the good news. While he’s there, he also directs Cooper to send out a group text.

Angela, Ariana, Cooper, Tommy, T.L., Rebecca, and the men of Cooper’s crew all come together at the fields. There, Tommy announces that, together, they’re officially going into business as “CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle, LLC.” The “CTT” stands for Cooper, Tommy, and Thomas/T.L. The “cattle” part of their name, he explains, is because he came up with the LLC on the spot—and wanted to make its title unique enough that he’d have no trouble claiming it. Tommy says he’ll serve as senior vice president, with Cooper as president and T.L overseeing the drills. Ariana even gets a job as the office manager. The group all celebrates their new venture…and their official freedom from M-Tex. In the final scene, Angela and Tommy embrace, both happy now that everything has worked out.

In comparison to Landman’s season 1 finale, there was much less tension in season 2’s ending episode. Even Cooper’s arrest felt low-stakes—instead of contributing any real plot momentum, his scenes in the police station seemed like more of a vehicle for Landman’s characters to rant at the cops. Facing off against Cami and M-Tex, Tommy seemed surprisingly confident he could go behind Cami’s back without facing any legal blowback. Demi Moore felt conspicuously underutilized in this finale, despite the new role she’s taken as head of M-Tex. To see Cami teased as a potential adversary would have added an extra boost the finale sorely needed.

Season 2’s ending also didn’t offer up much in the way of stakes for season 3. In fact, it felt rather like a series finale than a season finale, in the sense that all our protagonists got to (metaphorically, anyway) walk off into the sunset. There was no cut to Cami’s reaction re: her employees or business partner leaving her, nor any tease as to what obstacles Tommy’s new LLC might face. The show’s creator and showrunner, Taylor Sheridan, knows how to bring in audiences...so where was all the real drama? Maybe that’s what awaits us in season 3.

Emerson MillerWill there be a Landman season 3?

Even though the season 2 finale seemed to tie up everything in a bow, there’s certainly more trouble on the way. Landman was renewed for a third chapter back in December 2025, right in the midst of season 2.

While we don’t know much about what’s to come, it’s easy to guess what might be on the horizon: Tommy might be done with M-Tex, but there’s no confirmation M-Tex is done with him—or that Cami is truly out of the picture. She could find out about the contract Tommy made to bring Cooper’s land under M-Tex ownership, for example. Tommy and Gallino will also be working together, and if season 1 is any indication, their partnership could easily go awry. And with Cooper and Ariana officially engaged, there’s a potential wedding on the way. Plus, Tommy and Angela could always tie the knot again! It’s about time!

There’s no official date for when Landman will return, but we can only hope with how popular the show is, Paramount+ won’t leave us waiting for long.
