Tom Hiddlestonhas spent 15 years and counting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portraying shape-shifting God of Mischief Loki across Thormovies, Avengers films and the Disney+ series Loki — and he’s built a massive net worth along the way.
“Playing Loki has changed the course of my whole life, no question,” the 44-year-old Brit has said.
Aside from making him wealthy, the role turned Hiddleston into a global superstar, opening doors to a wide range of non-MCU projects, from Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) to the Hank Williams biopic I Saw the Light (2017). He’s currently starring as British intelligence agent Jonathan Pine in the second season of the spy drama The Night Manager. Based on the novels by John le Carré, the series premieres stateside on Jan. 11, 2026 — nearly a decade after the first season debuted to critical acclaim.

What is Tom Hiddleston’s backstory?
Hiddleston was raised in Wimbledon, London, the middle child of a chemist father and a stage manager mother. Though his family was firmly middle class, his parents worked hard to afford him an elite education, enrolling him at Eton College, one of the U.K.’s most prestigious boarding schools, before he went on to Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).
“I enjoyed my academic study hugely, and it’s funny how much I lean on it now,” he told BBC News. “That background is so helpful, it’s such an advantage. An education is an extraordinary gift.”
Still, like the majority of up-and-coming actors, Hiddleston spent the bulk of his twenties getting passed over for parts. “I got myself twisted in all kinds of knots, both personally and professionally,” he told British GQ. “Eventually I was like: Tom, get a grip. Go towards what interests you and motivates you. Get rid of people who don't make you feel good, who embarrass you or make you do things you don't want to do. Try not to be such a people pleaser and see where you end up.”
In 2009, he auditioned for Thor — originally for the title role that would go to Chris Hemsworth — and director Kenneth Branagh cast him as Loki.
“I was just speechless for a second [when I got the call],” he remembered. “I said, Oh my God. And just felt completely giddy. … And then had to sit on the sidewalk for a bit and just think about it … I was like, ‘Okay, I’m just going to take this in.’”
The movie came out in 2011 and made nearly $450 million at the global box office. With that, Hiddleston’s days as a struggling actor were officially over.

What was Tom Hiddleston’s big break?
After years of doing British TV and stage work, Hiddleston’s big break came when he was cast to play Loki in the 2011 movie Thor. In the 15 years since, he’s transformed the character from a scene-stealing villain into a fan-favorite antihero. “I’ve absolutely loved playing Loki,” he said. “...He has so much range and so much complexity, it never feels like [I’m playing] the same thing.” Lucky for him, then, he's set to return to the role in the upcoming blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday, due out in December.
What is Tom Hiddleston’s net worth in 2026?
Hiddleston is reportedly worth $40 million. While much of his wealth comes from playing Loki across film and television, he’s earned a pretty penny from non-MCU projects, too, including the globe-trotting espionage thriller The Night Manager, which is now in its second season.
What is Tom Hiddleston’s annual salary?
There’s no official published figure for Hiddleston’s annual salary (like a fixed yearly paycheck) because actors’ incomes vary widely from year to year depending on film/TV deals, endorsements and other revenue streams. But he’s played Loki on and off since 2011 (skipping only 2014, 2016, 2020, 2022, 2024 and 2025), so you can assume his annual earnings have routinely landed in the many millions.
How much did Tom Hiddleston get paid for the Thor movies?
So far, there have been four Thor movies — Thor (2011), Thor: The Dark World (2013), Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) — and Hiddleston has starred in all of them. While his exact payday for each film hasn’t been officially confirmed, reports say he earned about $160,000 for his first outing as Loki. That’s modest by Hollywood standards, but his salary is said to have surged after the first movie’s box-office success: He was reportedly paid $800,000 for The Avengers in 2012, suggesting that he was paid at least that for The Dark World the following year.
Keep in mind, too, that these numbers reflect only Hiddleston’s reported base salary, but actors typically negotiate bonuses and backend deals, especially on franchises like Thor and The Avengers. (Box-office bonuses reward actors when a movie hits major milestones, while backend deals give them a percentage of the film’s profits.) On a billion-dollar franchise like the Marvel films, even a small cut of net profits can add millions to an actor’s paycheck.
How much did Tom Hiddleston get paid for the Avengers movies?
Hiddleston has never shared his payday with the public, so we can’t say for sure, but reports claim he earned around $800,000 for the first Avengers in 2012 and $8 million for the third, Infinity War, in 2018, with a similar figure for Endgame. (He only appeared briefly in the second movie.) Again, these numbers reflect base salaries only; bonuses, profit participation and merchandising revenue likely pushed his total earnings even higher.

How much did Tom Hiddleston get paid for Loki on Disney+?
Hiddleston’s salary for Loki on Disney+ hasn’t been made public, but unsubstantiated estimates put him at around $700,000 per episode. With each installment of the two-season series running six episodes, that means he could have earned $8.4 million for the show, not counting potential bonuses, profit participation or executive-producer fees. Cha-ching!
What does Tom Hiddleston get paid for Night Manager?
Hiddleston’s Night Manager salary is a mystery, but it’s easy to imagine producers backing up the money truck for Season 2, given the success of Season 1 in 2016. If Golden-Globe-winning actor made as much per episode as he reportedly did for Loki, that would mean he raked in $4.2 million for six episodes.
Did Tom Hiddleston turn down the role of James Bond?
No. But back in 2016, when Hiddleston first dazzled as a British spy in Season 1 of The Night Manager, rumors swirled that he was a potential successor toDaniel Craig — to the point he was fielding questions about it constantly.
“To be straight with you, I haven’t been asked, I haven’t been approached, I haven’t been invited,” he told USA Today, one of many outlets to ask him about the fantasy casting. “I think I’ll only know the answer to that question if that ever happens, which it well may not.”
What is Tom Hiddleston’s highest-grossing film?
No surprise here: Hiddleston’s highest-grossing film is Avengers: Endgame (2019), which earned more than $2.79 billion worldwide. Other top-grossing Marvel films he’s appeared in include The Avengers (2012), which made around $1.5 billion and Avengers: Infinity War (2018), which earned over $2 billion. On the non‑MCU front, his biggest box-office draw was Kong: Skull Island (2017), which grossed around $568 million worldwide.
Has Tom Hiddleston played anything besides Loki?
Yes! Outside of the MCU, he's starred in movies like the gothic horror Crimson Peak (2015) and the fantasy drama The Life of Chuck (2024), as well as the critically acclaimed TV series The Night Manager. On stage, he’s performed in Coriolanus, Hamlet, Othello and Cyrano de Bergerac.
But his favorite role might be the one he plays at home, where he shares two children with his partner, actor Zawe Ashton. Speaking with British GQ in 2025, he recalled a night in sitting on the sofa watching the US Open with Ashton. “I was reading the FT, and I was like, this is great. A perfect night. Dog on my lap. Everyone's here! I was feeling so happy to be together, to be the pack,” he told the outlet. “I love my ordinary life and I like the part of myself that’s really ordinary.”
