A colleague of Prince Harry has revealed how Meghan Markle asked to be addressed. Scott Moore was appointed CEO of Price Harry's Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025. He met Meghan Markle, celebrating her 45th birthday today (August 4), one year before the event.
As reported in Richard Eden's column for the Daily Mail, Scott stated: "I did make sure to ask how I should be addressing them when they get here." He was told that a simple "'Ma'am' is fine.' He was also told a simple 'Sir' was fine to address the Duke of Sussex."
Traditionally, male members of the Royal Family are first addressed as 'Your Royal Highness', followed by 'Sir', while female members are referred to as 'Your Royal Highness', and then 'Ma'am'. It comes after reports claimed Prince Harry and Prince William's feud was sparked by a three-letter word.

However, following Harry and Meghan's decision to step back as senior working royals in 2020, they were stripped of their HRH titles.

This means they can no longer be addressed as 'Your Royal Highness', though they retain their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles.
Scott said: "'Ma'am' is fine'" when addressing Meghan
The choice to address Prince Harry as 'Sir' and Meghan Markle as 'Ma'am' marks a striking departure from Harry's earlier stance back in 2020. At that time, during a tourism conference in Edinburgh, Harry famously pushed for a more informal approach.
Ayesha Hazarika, the event host, revealed: "He's made it clear that we are all just to call him Harry."
The episode was filmed in April but was only televised late last month. More than 1million people tuned in to watch it, with show insiders saying Meghan was "delightful" and "easy-going".
But the matter of how she was addressed caused controversy. When introducing her, judge Poh Ling Yeow announced: "We've had MasterChef royalty in the kitchen before, but no one like this... please welcome to MasterChef Australia… the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle!"
Sources close to Meghan claimed the use of the term "royalty" did not go down well, given she is no longer a Royal Family member.
And viewers back at home also took issue with the introduction, annoyed that her Duchess title was being used.
