Zooey Deschanel's future husband is an ironing aficionado.

During a Dec. 17 appearance on Call Her Daddy with Alex Cooper, the New Girl alum opened up about her and Jonathan Scott's engagement in August 2023. Deschanel, 45, said that her now-fiancé offered to iron her clothes on the day he popped the question, which, along with a few other things, raised her suspicions about what he had in store.

Deschanel said there were moments throughout their relationship, which started in 2019 when they met on Carpool Karaoke, where she thought Scott, 47, would pop the question, but didn't.

While in Scotland with their family, the Merv star said there were notes on the calendar that seemed "funny" to her. "There were like all these things that I flagged, but didn't like... I just said like, 'That's weird.' "

Some of the notes on the itinerary for the day of their visit to Edinburgh Castle included, "You might meet members of the royal family, so you can't wear a hat."

"[The] royal family is obsessed with hats. Why can't I wear a hat?" she questioned. "I'm always wearing a hat because I don't want sun. I'm terrified of the sun. And I'm like, 'that's so lame.' "

Deschanel also said that the Property Brothers star told her she had to "dress kind of nice."

"I had a silk blouse and a silk skirt. And I just put them on," she continued, adding that they were a little wrinkled from being in her suitcase.

"He's like, 'Oh, would you like to iron those?' And I was like, 'No.' I was like, 'Iron? That sounds terrible. That sounds like work that I don't want to do.' And he's like, 'I'll iron them."

On top of the specific notes from Scott, Deschanel said that her mother was also chiming in from afar and giving Scott pointers. "I guess my mom was like, 'She's going to need hair and makeup.' And [Jonathan] was like, 'You should make sure to do your hair for this random tour.' "

Speaking with PEOPLE about their engagement in 2023, Deschanel and Scott reminisced on the moments leading up to the proposal.

"It was funny because I was trying to make a suggestion, we want to make sure we're dressed amazing," Scott said at the time.

"He's normally really nice. He's always like, 'You look so beautiful,' no matter what I wear," Deschanel recalled of the odd comment.

More recently, the couple gave an update on their wedding planning progress.

“We've just been having so much fun traveling with the kids and filming this show and stuff,” Scott told PEOPLE in August while talking about his latest HGTV series with brother Drew, Chasing the West. “So no, we have not actually made any plans yet, which, it's been two years now since I proposed.”

The couple does share a vision for what their big day will look like when they do tie the knot “Whatever we do, it has to be meaningful to us and we want to gather our friends and family and have a good time," the star said. "We want to keep it very, very intimate.”

Deschanel's new show, Merv, which premiered on Dec. 10, is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
